Provide Help Create Hope Project Does Just That

In January of 2009, the Board of Directors charged Catholic Charities staff to respond to the increasing need caused by the economic downturn.  In five months (May 2009) the Provide Help Create Hope project was launched.  Can we respond to everyone and everything?  No.  But can we make a difference?  Yes!  Thanks to the dedicated staff over the past nine months, read what people have to say:

"I was alone and helpless, but the Spirit led me to you guys!”  Walk-in client from Guatemala, Dec 2, 2009

“Working [with you] has really opened my eyes to all the wonderful work your agencies does to help people.  I never realized all the meetings/paperwork/procedures the refugees/unemployed/low income people have to go through to get their assistance and continue their assistance.”  -Karen Riley, CCL/PHCH volunteer, Nov 23, 2009

“I’m so excited I’m off of Section 8.  I can’t even explain the excitement in my heart.  I wanted to tell you, thank you so much.  As soon as I get settled in to my new apartment, I’m going to get started with the First Time Home Buyer’s The following stories, comments, and statements of thanks have been offered by phone, email, and in person by those who have been helped by our Provide Help Create Hope program.  Recorded by PHCH staff.

“Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it. Tell all your staff thanks for their help too. You all have been a tremendous blessing to me in my trying times.” – Audrey McBride, partner family of PHCH, Jan 19, 2010

“Yesterday I was lost.  I wouldn’t have made it without you…I appreciate you so much; you’re an angel…you all helped make this transition so much easier for me, and took so much stress off of me and made this all possible for me to accomplish.” – Janice Mergerson, partner family of PHCH, Nov 16, 2009

“You are WONDERFUL!!!  Thank you so very much.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the info you gave me.  My student is so excited.  He was seriously considering having to return to Ghana.  Now, there might be some hope for him.  It’s amazing what people can do when we work together.  Thank you again.”  -Tammi Alvey Thomas, Assistant Director of Academic and Student Affairs, University of Louisville, School of Public Health and Information Sciences, Oct 27, 2009

“Your help really has made a difference….I wanted to make a phone call just to thank you! [Volunteers] are going to do the hands-on work and their teacher will lay the floors….The sun hasn't completely shown, yet, but things are looking better. It will take a while still, but I'm coming out of the disaster. Thank you for praying for me and for being such a big help. I want you to keep doing the good work that you do for people. Know this: I appreciate what you've done for me very much!” –Judith Eastland, flood victim, Sept 14, 2009

We wanted to say, "thank you SO much!" [PHCH is] affecting families for the good! I've also heard this from other families involved with [Catholic Charities of Louisville]. We want to donate some time back in volunteer work if you can find anything for us, we are ready and willing….When we step across the threshold of our new home, we are going to call both of you back and thank you again. [CCUSA] will also be hearing about both of you. Bless you!" – Austin Metzler, formerly homeless partner family, Sept 3, 2009

I saw the [PHCH] Resource Guide on the website and if you or your group is responsible for all the hard work you did a terrific job!  I find it very helpful!  –Vickie Lile, Kentucky Office for Refugees, Aug 18, 2009

[regarding client referred to PHCH, who is also employee of Mr. Ingram’s business]: He is a kind old man. It broke my heart when I found out his situation. [Through PHCH and this case,] God handed me a wake up call. This is my moment to act. Thanks for the kind words.  –Tim Ingram, Pegasus Transportation, Aug 7, 2009
