Enhancing the lives of our senior community

 

Mission Statement: Senior Services promotes and enhances the dignity and quality of life for older persons, their families, and caregivers within the parishes and civic community.

Services Offered: 
Information and referral - We can provide a wide variety of information and referral assistance to seniors and their families including housing, homecare, obtaining prescription drug assistance, eligibility screening for Medicare assistance and most other senior social concerns.


Driver-Escort Program - Volunteers drive their own cars and transport frail seniors to medical or other important appointments (insurance supplement provided).  Clients offer monetary donations to cover costs.

Senior Network - Representatives of all local parishes are encouraged to attend quarterly meetings held at Catholic Charities in order to receive updates on pertinent senior issues which they can share with their parishes. Meetings for parishes outside of Louisville are held within respective regions.

Programs & Presentations - Available upon request for parish and regional groups on a variety of senior issues, such as: Advanced Directives, Housing, Alzheimer's Disease, Caring for Aging Parents, Caring for the Dying, Grief and Bereavement, plus many other topics.

Crisis Counseling - Available to individuals and families dealing with issues of aging.

Local Affiliations - ElderShelter Network, Ky Association for Gerontology, American Cancer Society, TRIAD, KIPDA Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, KIPDA Aging Advisory Council, Alzheimer's Association, Louisville Healthcare Professionals and Louisville Metro Senior Housing Committee.

Legislative Advocacy -members of Kentuckians for Quality of Life which supports legislation to improve life for elders and disabled.  Involved in planning annual Seniors' Day in State Legislature.  Update Senior Network representatives and associates on topics such as prescription drugs, elder abuse, Medicaid, nursing home care, fraud against seniors, and encourage them to call and write state representatives.
